As with all general service medals, it is issued with clasps, which define the service for which the award is made. Design The GSM 1962 is a cupro-nickel medal, 36 mm in diameter, with an ornamental suspender bar. The reverse bears the words ‘FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE’ under a crown, all surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves. Ribbon The GSM 1962 ribbon is purple with two outer stripes of dark green. Clasps Members mentioned in despatches for operations recognised by the GSM 1962 were approved to wear a bronze oak leaf on the medal ribbon and a small version as a ribbon bar emblem.
