Further reading The United Nations Korea Medal is awarded to those members who were posted for any period with the UN forces in Korea between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954, both dates inclusive. The medal is also awarded to personnel who served in adjacent areas including Japan and Okinawa while operating under UN command or sent to support UN operations in Korea in the relevant period from 1950 to 1954. Official visitors require 30 days, continuous or aggregate to qualify. The UN Korea Medal was notified in Australian Joint Services Staff Letter DRL 136/1951 of 27 December 1951 and was approved by the UN General Assembly in recognition of service in repelling aggression in Korea. Design The UN Korea Medal is a circular medal of bronze alloy, 36 mm in diameter. The obverse depicts the ‘World-in-a Wreath’ emblem of the United Nations and the reverse bears the inscription: ‘FOR SERVICE IN DEFENCE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS’.
