Please email for pricing. Further reading The Military Medal (MM) was instituted by Royal Warrant of 25 March 1916. Provisions were made for retrospective award which allowed recognition of acts of bravery performed during the Gallipoli campaign and other previous World War I service. Retrospective posthumous awards could not be made. The MM was to be awarded to non-commissioned officers and men of the Army for ‘individual or associated acts of bravery on the recommendation of a Commander-in-Chief in the Field.’ In June 1916 the MM was extended to women for ‘bravery and devotion under fire’. Just before the end of World War I eligibility was extended to Warrant Officers Class 1 and 2 and in 1931 to other rank members of the Air Force for services on the ground. Recipients of the MM are entitled to the postnominal ‘MM’. Design The MM is a silver circular medal 36 mm in diameter. The obverse has the effigy of the Sovereign. The reverse has the words ‘FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD’ encircled by a wreath surmounted by the Royal Cypher and a Crown. There have been six types of obverse and four types of reverse. Ribbon The MM ribbon has broad dark blue edges flanking a central section of white and crimson stripes.
