Further reading Following Queen Victoria’s death during the South African War, King Edward VII authorised a medal to be awarded to all who were serving in South Africa on or after 1 January 1902, and who would complete 18 months service before 1 June 1902. The medal was never issued alone, but always with the Queen’s Medal. Design The King’s South Africa Medal is a silver medal 36 mm in diameter. The obverse has the bust of King Edward VII and the legend ‘EDWARDVS VII REX IMPERATOR’. The reverse is the same as the type 2 of the Queen’s Medal. Ribbon The King’s South Africa Medal ribbon is 32 mm wide, with green, white and yellow stripes in equal widths. Clasps
