Defence Long Service Medal

Further reading The Defence Long Service Medal may be awarded to a member who has, on or after 14 February 1975, completed 15 years qualifying remunerated service in the Australian Defence Force. This includes efficient service in Permanent and Reserve Forces. Clasps are awarded for each further periods of five years efficient service. The regulations state that members are not entitled to have a Defence Force service award and the DLSM at the same time. The Defence Force service awards are:
Design The DLSM is a circular cupro-nickel medal, 38 mm in diameter, ensigned with the Crown of St Edward, having the Joint Service Emblem surrounded by two sprays of wattle leaves and blossom. The reverse has a central horizontal panel surrounded by the inscription ‘FOR SERVICE IN THE AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE’. Ribbon The DLSM ribbon is 32 mm wide with a central panel of seven alternating stripes of azure-blue and gold flanked by broad azure-blue stripes and gold edges. The ribbon reflects the designs and colours of the awards it replaced. Clasps The award of the clasp to the DLSM is denoted by a cupro-nickel bar surmounted by the Royal Cypher flanked by sprigs of wattle. When the ribbon is worn alone the award of the clasp is indicated by a ribbon bar emblem in the form of a circular cupro-nickel rosette or a cupro-nickel Federation Star. A total of four emblems can be worn on the ribbon. The first four clasps to the Medal are indicated by rosettes. The fifth clasp is indicated by a single cupro-nickel Federation Star and subsequent clasps are indicated by additional Federation Stars. Order of Wear Is below the Reserve Force Medal.
