Further reading A major historical milestone to be recognised by a commemorative medal was the Centenary of Federation in 1901. To recognise the event, the Australian Government established the Centenary of Federation Medal by Letters Patent of 14 February 2001. The medal was awarded to all living Australian centenarians and selected other Australian citizens. The lapel badge of the Centenary of Federation Medal is a replica of the Medal. The lapel badge may be worn at any time with civilian dress. Design The Centenary of Federation Medal is a silver circular medal 38 mm in diameter. The obverse has the Federation Star surrounded by 100 dots representing the centenary and with a central band inscribed ‘CENTENARY OF FEDERATION 1901–2001’. Ribbon The Centenary of Federation Medal ribbon is 32 mm wide, deep blue with a central panel of red and yellow stripes. Order of Wear Is below the Australian Sports Medal.
