Further reading In 2012 the British Government accepted the recommendation of a review of service awards to introduce the Arctic Star to recognise those who served in areas above the Arctic Circle during World War II. The Arctic Star is intended to commemorate the Arctic Convoys and is designed primarily for the ships of the convoys to North Russia and their Escorts. Design The Arctic Star is a yellow copper zinc alloy in the form of a six-pointed star, measuring 44 mm between opposite points. The obverse has a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet containing the words ‘THE ARCTIC STAR’. Ribbon The Arctic Star ribbon has stripes of light blue, dark blue, red and white. Order of Wear Is below the Air Crew Europe Star. And above the Africa Star.
