Further reading With the 80th anniversary of the armistice that stopped the fighting in World War I, the Australian Government established, by Letters Patent of 27 January 1999, the 80th Anniversary of Armistice Medal, for presentation to all of Australia’s surviving veterans of the war. A total of 71 medals were presented to surviving veterans before Anzac Day 1999. The lapel badge of the 80th Anniversary of Armistice Medal is a replica of the Medal. Design The 80th Anniversary of Armistice Medal is a nickel-silver circular medal 38 mm in diameter, ensigned with the Tudor Crown. The obverse has the statue of the ‘Bullecourt Digger’ and the reverse depicts the inscription ‘LEST WE FORGET’ surrounded by a spray of wattle. Ribbon The 80th Anniversary of Armistice Medal ribbon is 32 mm wide, red with a central stripe and edges of black, these colours representing the poppies worn in remembrance.
