Reserve Force Decoration RFD)

Further reading The RFD was approved on 20 April 1982 Recipients of the RFD are entitled to use the postnominal ‘RFD’. Design The RFD is an oval cupro-nickel medal, 36 mm wide and 44 mm high, surrounded by a gilt wreath of wattle ensigned with the Crown of St Edward in cupro-nickel, surmounted by the Joint Service Emblem on a radiate ground on the obverse. The reverse is inscribed ‘FOR EFFICIENT SERVICE IN THE RESERVE FORCES’. Ribbon The RFD ribbon is 32 mm wide, azure-blue with a central gold band. These were Australia’s national colours at the time of introduction. Clasps The award of a clasp to the RFD is denoted by a gilt bar surmounted by the Royal Cypher flanked by sprigs of wattle. When the ribbon is worn alone, the award of a clasp is indicated by a ribbon bar emblem in the form of an oval cupro-nickel rosette or a cupro-nickel Federation Star. A total of four emblems can be worn on the ribbon. The first four clasps to the Decoration are indicated by rosettes. The fifth clasp is indicated by a single cupro-nickel Federation Star and subsequent clasps are indicated by additional Federation Stars Order of Wear Is below the Defence Force Service Medal.
